This year the Greensboro Free Library applied for and received a $4,000 MERP (Municipal Energy Resilience Program) grant for energy efficiency education. Beth Meacham and Liz Steel are leading this initiative working with neighboring towns. A full energy audit of the Library was carried out to identify priorities for efficiency and weatherization.
Smith’s store hosted energy efficiency guru Paul Markowitz to answer any questions folks had about how to weatherize their homes and save money on their heating and cooling bills.
Liz Baum and Peter Watkinson looked into placing an electric vehicle charger in town and the possibility of solar installations to cover our town electricity bill.
Windowdressers:
Over the course of three days in late October, the committee and 36 volunteers built 106 window inserts for 13 households and the historical society just in time for winter’s first snowfall.
We made 36 windows for free or at reduced cost and raised $1,500 from a grant from Energize Vermont and generous donations from local households to cover the cost.
Many thanks to all of you who showed up – and to:
- WindowDressers for imagining this house warming, energy saving, community building project and assembling all the tools to make it possible in towns across Maine, Vermont and New Hampshire
- Craftsbury Outdoor Center for providing the beautiful space for our pop up factory shop
- Anna Kehler, our Greensboro Energy Committee & WindowDresser leader
- Molly Brandt and John Mackin, key operations experts during the weekend community build
- Kevin Gregoire, Craig Taylor, Hannah Dreissigacker and Jack Sumberg, support leaders from Craftsbury, Albany and Glover
- Allison Pouliot, outstanding WindowDressers coordinator for all 25 communities in Vermont
- Bill Slocum, Gwyn Harris, Holly Cook, Isa Oehry, Fan Watkinson – as the measuring team for the inserts during the spring and summer
- Anna Kehler, Carolyn Kehler, Becky Arnold, Susan Schulman, Peter and Fan Watkinson, Front Seat, Jasper Hill Cheese – providers of the delicious calories that kept us going
Cheers to warmer homes, new connections and fewer carbon emissions!
